The Land Down Under is no stranger to online shopping. In 2016, Australians spent $17.7 billion on physical goods purchased online – 21% of them went to international products. Shopping online stores in the U.S. and shipping your purchases to Australia? Here’s what you need to know.

What are Australia’s Duties and Taxes?
Australia’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) depends on the value of goods declared. A new law effective on July 1, 2018, mandates that all low-value imported goods valued at AU$1,000 and below will have a GST of 10% of the total cost of goods + insurance + freight cost (CIF). High-value imported goods (greater than AU$1,000), the following commodity tax and duty rates apply.

How do I pay Australia’s Duties & Taxes?
You can pay your shipment’s GST at our international shipping checkout, which we will pay to the Australian Tax Office (ATO), so you don’t have to pay upon the receipt of your shipments. However, if your package has tobacco/cigar, and or alcohol/wine, you have to pay the applicable duties and to the delivery courier when you receive your package.

What items are not allowed to be shipped from the U.S. to australia?
Some items cannot be shipped according to the rules and regulations of the International Air Transport Association, no matter the size. These items are mostly combustive materials such as flammable solids and liquids, firearms, illegal drugs, and export-controlled items, with exceptions. We can ship flammable liquids such as perfume and flammable solids like batteries with our HazMat Repack. For the full list of prohibited items, click here.
